I recently bought a high-efficiency fireplace (the Brentwood by Lennox). I was so happy to get it and was really looking forward to having lots of fires all winter long.
But when I first began having fires in my new fireplace, I thought I had somehow ruined it! The glass (actually ceramic) was “stained” brown, and no matter how hard I scrubbed, or what cleaning products I had on hand that I used, the glass was still stained, and it seemed like there was no way to get it off.
I looked in the instruction manual that came with my Brentwood fireplace, and it said I should go to the store where I got my unit to buy special cleaning products to get the creosote off. I was thinking, hmmmm, must be some crazy chemicals to get this stuff off … probably expensive, too.
I decided to look online first, to see about what it might cost, research it a little, maybe purchase it online if I find a good deal.
In the process of looking around, I found someone who wrote in a forum that you could use the ashes from the fire to clean the glass. I was pretty skeptical, but I decided to give it a try.
I got a paper towel, wet it and dipped it in the ashes, and after a bit of work, yes, the “stain” did come off. Great, I thought! I don’t have to buy any products!
What I have learned since then that if you use WARM water, it comes off VERY EASILY. It really is amazing!
You don’t have to buy any special products. Just use the ashes from your fireplace to clean the window, then finish up with a damp newspaper … works like magic!

Seattle Washington is a city that has much to offer young and old alike as a vacation destination. The truly amazing thing about a city like Seattle is that many of the attractions that might appeal to young children, might also appeal to those of an older generation for much the same and very different reasons.
One of the many attractions that older visitors are sure to enjoy, well, if flowers are there thing, is the Woodland Park Rose Garden. These gardens are free to attend and offer some spectacular blooms if you visit between the months of May and August.
The Seattle Aquarium is another point of interest for young and old alike. Whether you are in your first childhood or your fifth there really is nothing more exciting than watching glorious sea creatures swim above your head. When I was a child, which was something that happened in science fiction, not in real life.
Which brings me to my next timeless attraction: The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. This museum explores the history of science fiction and the impact it has had on the world we see today. I love the way imaginations from times long past have sparked some of the inventions of today. As a serious science fiction lover and fanatic, I completely enjoy this museum and could spend days here. But I also have to admit that there are things I see here that belong to my father, and some things that belong to my children. This is why the Science Fiction Museum made my list.
The Underground Tours are another thing that someone who is more mature might find very interesting. I know that I was completely enthralled not only in the story, but also in the hearing of the story. This was one tour that was well worth the price I paid for it. I would pay the price again if for nothing more than to take another stroll around the museum that requires a tour ticket to gain entrance. Of course, the only exit from this tour is through the gift shop, which really poses no problem. I have will power, really!
Some of the historic homes in Seattle are worthy of a tour also.Some of these old rustic houses truely are tour worthy as Seattle real estate can be a lesson in history in the rainy town. Their are plenty of these walk of fames thru town.
The Whale Museum and any of the whale watching tours are another draw worth mentioning. If you have never seen one of these magnificent creatures up close it is an awe-inspiring event and one well worth repeating if you have. Young and old alike, no matter how big you are, it’s amazing how small you can feel next to these great animals.
And of course there is always the Private Eye on Seattle Tour. This tour is not for the faint of heart and yet if you are a fan of old private eye novels or ‘true crime’ then you should find this particular tour to be a great amount of fun. There are three tours available: The Queen Anne Mystery and Murder Tour, the Capital Hill Mystery and Murder Tour, and Haunted Happening-also called the Seattle Ghost Tour. Each of these tours costs $25 per person and lasts between two and a half and three hours.
It doesn’t really matter if you are young or simply young at heart, Seattle has something to wonderful to offer all who visit here. From the gorgeous scenery that only nature could provide to the cultural center that this great city has become, I hope you can find plenty to keep you occupied during your stay.

We all want to look our best and one of the biggest areas of challenge is around the waistline. Exercising your stomach muscles can play a huge impact on how you look and feel. If you’re going to try and develop you 6 pack abs than you ought to spend some time looking at what exercises are going to give you the best results in the shortest timeframes. Any model citizen would agree with this: financial planning can be challenging! With all the bills you have to pay every single month of every single year, it’s quite difficult to reserve some cash for our chosen expenses. As more dire news and headlines about the real esate meltdown continue to hit the airwaves I’m reminded of so many things that have all happened in the past before… the more things change the more they stay the same.
I had met up with a friend of mine at Mozart’s to discuss some Internet business and he started talking about this girl he knows in Detroit.
The conversation drifted to how now is the time to buy and we should start really buying up a lot of properties in 2009 to be positioned for the expected recovery in property prices and sales starting in 2010. After the real estate investing market meltdown there’s sure to be recovery. Always has, always will.
And he got to talking about how another friend of his had marveled at the prices for lakefront property on Lake Michigan.
The friend told him he’d never seen these properties under $250,000 to $300,000 apiece. But now he was seeing properties formerly in this range going for right now in the $80,000 to $90,000 range.
I don’t know what kind of condition these properties were in or if they’re in a state of disrepair but these numbers are extremely telling to me on exactly how deep the damage in the US housing market is and just how far things have fallen.
The pain being felt by the American consumer is extreme and cuts deep.
Don’t let the news media prognosticators fool you. There is lots of pain out there and talking to any of the executives of the Fortune 500 companies will confirm this conclusion.
I read an article the other day about how many executives were remarking they’d never seen anything like this with consumers having such tight grasp of the purse strings.
But as with any trough the black of night will yield to the dawn of a new day and growth once again.

So, my most recent news is that I’ve got a colleague who has just come back from a recent stay in a town called Mudgee in Australia and he recommends a Guesthouse there. I wish my family could get there someday ‘cos it sounds beautiful.
Mudgee is a compact place in the middle of New South Wales and as it happens there are a surprising number of places to stay nearby. My friend recommends this Mudgee Guesthouse if you want a jolly, not to say, incredibly hospitable welcome as well as good quality comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. Accommodation in Mudgee is usually of a respectable standard as it happens.
Why do people go to Mudgee to begin with was something I wanted to know (I mean have you heard of Mudgee town really and was first settled in the 1820s by some people from the UK. What my friend was looking for was a place to stay that was near the town yet peaceful. There are quite a few Mudgee Getaways in fact (”Getaways” is a local term for places to stay) and they are very popular.
Other local centres include Gulgong, Kandos, Rylstone, Hargraves, Hill End. Lue, Windeyer and Wollar and they offer different sorts of accommodation.
Don’t forget that the word “local” seems to have a different meaning down under. So your neighbour may in fact be several miles away and I have a hunch that getting from Mudgee to Kandos could take a while. According to Google Maps the journey is around 70km.
So if you need Mudgee accommodation you want to make sure you have found somewhere good to stay or you could find yourself travelling another hour or two!

One of the oldest materials for clothes is wool. Very shortly after our ancestors, the cave men, learned that you can carry half a dead furry animal or tons of fur to keep warm, they invented spinning wool. And what a fantastic material sheep wool is! It has so many characteristics that synthetic fibres do not reach – amazing.
