Navajo Rugs As Exquisite Now As They Were Back Then
If one wanted to see the beginning of the Navajo rugs and blankets, they would have to retreat to the time between 1706 and 1743. These were the first records to show that the Navajo were keeping sheep and weaving wool. It is believed that the Pueblo Indians passed on the technology used in these pieces to the Navajo.
Those that might collect these blankets the era of time that they are made in is very important to them. Some collectors believe that the 1860s blankets are worth a great deal. Blankets and rugs that are made prior to this time are usually estimated as to their worth based on the style of the blanket or the dyes are used in the materials. They are broken down into various times such as the regional style runs from 1930s until today.
The next era was from 1890 to 1930. Then there was the transition period between 1868 ito1890. This was preceded by the late classic of 1850 to 1868 and finally there was a classic of 1700 to 1850.
Decorating with Navajo rugs today can create a unique atmosphere. They have a richness found in their colors and patterns. When one looks upon them, they are automatically taken back to the past. They have an intriguing story about them and one has to marvel at the intricate work that went into these pieces.
When one is to look at an authentic Navajo rug its authenticity is are going to depend on the era for example the early rugs from 1890 to 1930 were quite a bit different from the types of weavings that were to come later. The wool that was used was of good quality and was smooth and yet had silkiness to it. The quality could vary and the outcome would depend on the skill of the individual making it. The weaver had to have a style for cleaning. combing and carding. Then after this came spinning dying and weaving. It is easy to see that it took an artistic mind to be able to create these beautiful pieces.
For modern-day decorating all it takes is a couple of simple pieces of American Indian Art in the room to transpire these living quarters. One simple Navajo rug or blanket can become the focal point and set the theme of the room. A few pieces of pottery and the right art pieces for the wall and one has a room that is most enjoyable and easily takes one back in time
