The Health Properties of Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamins and minerals have had a really good rap just recently, but despite what some people say, they are not a magic pill. All the same, it is genuinely tempting to look at them in that manner. Anything that’s as easy to take as a vitamin supplement that offers eternal youth, look younger, help fight off conditions like cancer and heart disease, improve your immune system, fight off illness, help you deal with anxiety attack and supercharge your energy levels definitely sounds pretty miraculous or magical.
Fairly recently, when people first began talking about the restorative potential of vitamins and minerals, the general public started to clamber for health supplements and were eager to know if they might be used as part of a liver detox diet program. As more information became available, so did health consultants and even some physicians. As news got around, it was starting to sound like by taking a healthy dose of vitamins you could cure pretty much any illness. Just take enough vitamins or the right combination of vitamins, and presto! Perfect health was here to stay.
As luck would have, things weren’t quite that simple. Of course, health supplements, regardless of how powerful they may be, simply aren’t a cure-all. They can however play a vital role in helping protect health. A lot of clinical studies just recently are generating interest in this vital subject once again. A lot of the properties of vitamins that are being researched about the healing power of these vital nutrients all but boggle the mind.
Let’s take a brief look at just one study that didn’t get all that much publicity. Researchers in London looked at 180 middle managers employed in the manufacturing industry in Britain. During the study, one group were given a traditional vitamin supplement and another group a look-alike pill that did not contain nutrients. After 8 weeks, the people taking the vitamins felt a definite improvement in their quality of life and wellbeing.
The group not receiving supplements did not perceive a change. The conclusion of the study was that the nutritional supplements did actually play a role in improving the workers attitude, wellbeing and overall stress levels. And all because they simply gave their bodies extra vitamins and minerals each day… with the scientific research to support it.
As more and more rigorous scientific studies accumulate showing spectacular health benefits from vitamins and minerals, especially when used to support a natural detox diet, we’re all back where we were a few decades ago: eager to take advantage of all of this healing potential – and thoroughly confused. While the reasons for taking vitamins and minerals are now supported by scientific research, finding health supplements that actually work can be very confusing.
