What Is Tinnitus

Before you can hope to find methods to treat tinnitus is advisable to understand what tinnitus is.  You will be in a much better position to relieve the tinnitus symptoms once you have a good understanding of the condition.

There is no point in simply living with it like many people do simply because you do not know what it really is.

Tinnitus is defined as experiencing ringing, buzzing, or other noises or sounds without the presence of an external cause. In certain instances others may hear the noises. In the majority of cases however only the person experiencing tinnitus will be able to hear the noises.

Tinnitus is often experienced in both ears but can also only be present in one ear sometimes. Most people refer to the tinnitus noises they experience as a ringing in the ear but there are many different noises actually heard.

  • Humming

  • Noises Like a Door Bell Buzzing

  • Swishing

  • Rushing Noises Like A Waterfall

  • Ringing and many more

It is not uncommon to hear a blending of the noise listed above

Take note of the fact that there are different tinnitus types. Don’t believe that all tinnitus is the same and that there is no relief to be had.

Here are examples and basic descriptions of the types:

Tonal tinnitus- in this type, you experience a constant sound such as a single note being played over and over. This is often called “ringing in the ears.”

Pulsatile tinnitus- Can you hear your “heart beating in your ears”? That’s pulsatile tinnitus.

Subjective tinnitus- this is where only the patient can hear the noises.

There are also some less common types of tinnitus in which multiple sounds are heard at once, or when the sounds are described as more of a beeping like Morse code.

Any and all of these sounds and symptoms could be tinnitus so don’t feel locked into one specific definition of what tinnitus is. Finding the correct tinnitus treatment is going to be far easier if you have an open mind and are not locked into one avenue to find your tinnitus cure.

The advice discussed is simply for researching purposes only. No advice is implied. As with any condition it is best to talk with a doctor before taking any medical advice.
